Wire
Elastic thread is used to make bracelets. After years of testing the elastic threads on the market, we find that these are the most durable. We have two different types of elastic thread, round silicone thread and flat fiber thread.
The silicone wire are available in different sizes (0.5-1 mm) and you choose the size according to how big the holes are in the beads. It is important not to use too thin a thread as it will stretch faster and you will have to rethread the bracelet. We usually recommend 0.7-1 mm, but if you want to make a bracelet from, for example, freshwater pearls that have very small holes, you will have to go down in size.
The fiber thread is our favorite and comes in one size, 0.8 mm. Because the thread is flat, it is used twice with a Big eye needle, which makes the bracelet very strong and durable but at the same time stretchy. The fiber thread can only be used for beads that are 6mm and up, otherwise the thread will break.
When the bracelet is finished, tie 2-3 knots on top of each other and tighten firmly. Double check that the knot is really tight, cut the threads and carefully thread a bead/knot hider over the knot so it is not visible. We do not recommend using any glue as it is not needed if you make proper knots and the thread can break.
Wire rope used for making necklaces and bracelets. The wire is 0.38 mm, consists of 7 thin steel wires and is nylon-coated, which makes it very strong and durable. If you have large, heavy beads, you can use the wire twice for extra durability. If you want to learn how to make jewelry with wire, there are instructions with the product.
Fireline is used to make wrap bracelets. The thread is 0.23 mm, which means that you can thread even small beads several times, but at the same time it is very strong. It can be difficult to get the thread on because the needle eye is so small. Use a flat iron and flatten the thread so you can easily get the thread in . If you want to learn how to make wrap bracelets, there are good videos on Youtube that show you how.
Nylon thread & waxed cotton thread used for example to tie necklaces/malas and macramé/shamballa bracelets. You choose the size according to how big the holes in the beads are and how big the knots you want. For most 6 mm and 8 mm semi-precious stones, you can use nylon thread 0.5 mm and waxed cotton thread 0.5 mm. Feel free to use a double-pointed needle to get the knot as close to the bead as possible. If you want to learn how to tie necklaces, we have a video here .
Pearl silk is used to tie necklaces. It is a strong, twisted thread with a needle on it so you can easily thread beads without having to burn the thread. Pearl silk is very suitable if you want to tie necklaces with smaller beads where, for example, nylon thread is too thick.
