Tying your own mala necklace is both fun and rewarding, as long as you have a little patience! In addition, it becomes a beautiful piece of jewelry that you can wear year after year, or give as a gift to someone you like. It is also a good aid for meditation. A mala consists of 108 beads and usually a guru bead, a tassel or a pendant as a finish. Choose from all our fantastic stones, tassels and details! You can combine in lots of different ways, mix different stones, add intermediate parts etc., let your creativity flow. When choosing stones, you can go by which energy(s) you want, your favorite color or as we usually say, choose the stone that feels right for you without perhaps thinking too much.

There are many different ways to tie your mala. Below we show how to easily tie a mala. When the necklace is finished, you can hang a tassel or other pendant. As we show in the video, we put on a hanger when we have threaded half the necklace to be able to attach the pendant, and it is also a nice detail. If you do this, you can also change the pendant/tassel afterwards or have several different pendants for the same necklace.
You can also start from the tassel and work your way up on both sides. This works well if you have a tassel with a short loop or attach the thread directly to the loop of the cap. If you want a bumling, you need to make sure that it has a large hole so that both threads and possibly the loop of the tassel can fit in the hole of the bumling. Thread the thread into the loop of the cap or tassel, thread both threads into the bumling and make a knot. Then start threading your Mala necklace.

Good tools and aids to have when tying necklaces are Bead Board or bead mat , straightening pliers , wire cutters , glue and double pointed needles . It takes about 2-3 m of thread to tie a mala necklace. It is better to take too much thread than too little!
